Warranties on Home Improvement Projects in Main Line PA

A warranty is one of the most important parts of any home improvement project. It is the written commitment that protects your investment after the work is completed and provides clear documentation of what is covered, who is responsible for repairs, and how warranty claims are handled.

For homeowners throughout Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Wayne, Narberth, Gladwyne, Haverford, Havertown, Wynnewood, Bala Cynwyd, Villanova, and surrounding Main Line communities, understanding warranty protection is just as important as understanding project cost, materials, and contractor qualifications.

Hynes Construction provides two layers of warranty protection on qualifying projects:

    • A written Hynes Construction workmanship warranty covering installation-related defects.
    • Manufacturer-backed warranties from leading brands including GAF, James Hardie, CertainTeed, LP Building Solutions, Andersen, Pella, Trex, and other approved manufacturers covering product-related defects.

This page explains the warranty protection available across our roofing, siding, window, door, painting, deck, and exterior renovation services, including what is covered, how warranty claims are handled, and why certified installation plays a critical role in maintaining manufacturer warranty protection.

For information about the certifications that allow Hynes Construction to offer enhanced manufacturer warranties, including GAF Master Elite® status and James Hardie Preferred Installer designation, please visit our Certifications, Affiliations, and Credentials page.

Why Warranty Coverage Matters for Main Line Homeowners

For most homeowners, a roof replacement, siding installation, window replacement, deck construction, or exterior renovation is a long-term investment intended to protect and improve the home for many years. The quality of the warranty behind that work plays an important role in protecting that investment after the project is complete.

Throughout the Main Line, many homes represent decades of ownership and significant property value. Communities such as Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Wayne, Narberth, Gladwyne, Haverford, Wynnewood, Bala Cynwyd, and Villanova contain a mix of historic Colonial, Victorian, Craftsman, and custom-built homes that often require specialized installation methods and careful attention to detail. When roofing, siding, flashing, windows, or other exterior systems are installed incorrectly, the resulting problems can extend beyond cosmetic concerns and lead to moisture intrusion, structural deterioration, interior damage, reduced energy efficiency, and costly repairs.

A comprehensive warranty helps provide accountability and documentation long after the project has been completed. It establishes clear expectations regarding what is covered, who is responsible for correcting covered defects, and how claims are handled should an issue arise during the warranty period.

Homeowners should also understand that not all warranties provide the same level of protection. Some warranties cover only manufacturing defects in the products themselves, while others cover installation workmanship. Complete protection often requires both forms of coverage working together. This is especially important for roofing and exterior renovation projects, where installation quality plays a significant role in long-term performance.

For homeowners who plan to remain in their property for many years, strong warranty protection offers long-term peace of mind. For homeowners who may sell during the warranty period, transferable manufacturer warranties can become a valuable asset that demonstrates the quality of the installation and provides added confidence to future buyers.

At Hynes Construction, every project includes clear written warranty documentation. Depending on the products selected and the scope of work performed, homeowners may also qualify for enhanced manufacturer-backed warranty protection available only through certified installation programs. Understanding those options before construction begins allows homeowners to make informed decisions about both the products they choose and the protection that supports them.

    Hynes Construction Workmanship Warranty

Every qualifying project completed by Hynes Construction is backed by a written workmanship warranty. While manufacturer warranties protect against defects in the products themselves, a workmanship warranty protects homeowners against problems caused by installation-related errors.

This distinction is important because many of the issues that lead to premature roofing, siding, window, door, and exterior system failures are not caused by defective materials. They are often the result of improper installation methods, incorrect flashing details, inadequate sealing, fastening errors, drainage issues, or other workmanship-related deficiencies that affect how the system performs after installation.

Our workmanship warranty reflects our commitment to standing behind the quality of our work long after construction has been completed. If a covered issue arises during the applicable warranty period and is determined to be the result of a workmanship defect, Hynes Construction will inspect the issue and take the appropriate corrective action in accordance with the terms of the warranty provided for that project.

EPA Lead Paint Certification  –  Critical for Main Line Historic Homes

IMPORTANT FOR PRE-1978 MAIN LINE HOMES: Federal law requires that contractors performing renovation, repair, or painting work on homes built before 1978 was certified under the EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule. The majority of the most desirable Main Line homes—pre-1940 Colonials in Ardmore and Bryn Mawr, Victorian homes in Narberth and Wayne, and Craftsman bungalows throughout Lower Merion Township are subject to this requirement. Hynes Construction is EPA RRP-certified. Any contractor you hire for exterior work on a pre-1978 home who cannot produce RRP certification is operating outside federal law. Hiring an uncertified contractor exposes you to liability and your family to lead dust.

What the Hynes Construction Workmanship Warranty Covers

The workmanship warranty is designed to address installation-related defects that affect the performance of the completed project. Depending on the type of work performed, covered workmanship issues may include the following:

    • Improper installation of roofing components, flashing systems, or ventilation components.
    • Installation defects that contribute to water intrusion or leakage.
    • Improper fastening of roofing, siding, trim, or exterior building materials.
    • Incorrect sealing around windows, doors, penetrations, or transition areas.
    • Misaligned siding panels, trim components, or exterior finish materials caused by installation errors.
    • Defects in workmanship that lead to premature system performance issues during the applicable warranty period.
    • Other installation-related deficiencies determined to be the responsibility of the contractor’s workmanship.

Every warranty claim is evaluated based on the specific conditions observed in the field and the scope of work originally performed.

What the Workmanship Warranty Does Not Cover

Like all contractor workmanship warranties, coverage is limited to issues resulting from installation-related defects and does not extend to circumstances outside the contractor’s control.

Examples of items generally not covered include:

    • Normal aging and weathering of materials over time.
    • Manufacturer product defects covered under separate manufacturer warranties.
    • Damage caused by severe weather events, hail, windstorms, fallen trees, lightning strikes, or other acts of nature.
    • Damage resulting from homeowner modifications, third-party repairs, or alterations performed after project completion.
    • Lack of routine maintenance that contributes to deterioration or system failure.
    • Damage caused by events unrelated to the original installation.

Manufacturer warranties, homeowner insurance policies, and workmanship warranties each serve different purposes and often work together to provide complete protection.

    Why Workmanship Coverage Matters

A roofing system, siding system, window installation, or exterior renovation is only as reliable as the quality of its installation.

Even premium products can experience performance issues when installed incorrectly. A high-quality roofing shingle cannot prevent leaks if flashing is improperly installed. A premium siding product cannot perform as intended if moisture management details are overlooked. Likewise, energy-efficient windows may fail to deliver expected performance when installation procedures are not followed correctly.

For this reason, experienced homeowners evaluate not only the products being installed but also the qualifications, certifications, and installation standards of the contractor performing the work.

Hynes Construction has served Main Line homeowners for more than 50 years, and our workmanship warranty represents our commitment to the quality standards that have supported that reputation across generations of homeowners.

    How Warranty Terms Are Provided

Warranty terms vary based on the scope and type of project being completed. Before any work begins, homeowners receive clear documentation outlining the warranty coverage applicable to their project.

At project completion, homeowners receive written warranty documentation for their records, including applicable workmanship warranty information and any qualifying manufacturer warranty documentation.

We encourage every homeowner to review warranty coverage carefully, ask questions during the estimate process, and understand exactly what protection applies before signing a construction agreement.

GAF Manufacturer Warranties Available on Qualifying Roofing Projects

As a GAF Master Elite® contractor, Hynes Construction is authorized to offer enhanced manufacturer-backed roofing warranties on qualifying roof replacement projects.

This distinction matters because not every roofing contractor can provide the same level of warranty protection. GAF restricts its highest warranty programs to a select group of contractors who meet ongoing requirements for licensing, insurance, reputation, installation quality, and professional training. Fewer than 2% of roofing contractors in North America hold GAF Master Elite status.

For Main Line homeowners investing in a new roofing system, enhanced warranty protection can provide additional confidence that both the roofing materials and the installation are backed by one of the largest roofing manufacturers in North America.

Manufacturer warranties provided through GAF operate separately from the Hynes Construction workmanship warranty. Together, they create multiple layers of protection for qualifying roofing projects.

Understanding the Difference Between Material and Workmanship Coverage

Many homeowners assume that a roofing warranty automatically covers every roofing issue that might occur after installation. In reality, roofing warranties often fall into two categories:

    Material Warranty Coverage

Material warranties protect against manufacturing defects in roofing products. If a shingle, ridge cap, or other roofing component fails because of a defect in manufacturing, the manufacturer’s warranty may provide coverage according to the terms of the warranty program.

    Workmanship Warranty Coverage

Workmanship warranties protect against installation-related defects. These include issues caused by improper installation practices rather than defective materials.

Both forms of protection are important because roofing systems rely on both quality products and proper installation to perform as intended.

    GAF Standard Limited Warranty

The GAF Standard Limited Warranty is the basic manufacturer warranty available on qualifying GAF roofing products.

This warranty primarily covers manufacturing defects in roofing materials and protects according to the coverage period associated with the specific product installed.

The Standard Limited Warranty focuses on product performance and does not provide enhanced workmanship coverage beyond the protections offered through the contractor’s own workmanship warranty. For homeowners installing a quality roofing system, this provides an important foundation of manufacturer-backed material protection.

    GAF System Plus Limited Warranty

The GAF System Plus Limited Warranty expands coverage beyond the standard warranty level when qualifying GAF roofing components are installed together as a complete roofing system.

    Benefits may include:

    • Extended material coverage.
    • Coverage on qualifying roofing system components.
    • Additional workmanship protection through the GAF warranty program.
    • Enhanced protection compared to standard material-only warranty options.

The System Plus warranty helps bridge the gap between product protection and installation protection, providing homeowners with greater confidence in the overall roofing system.

For many Main Line homeowners, this represents a meaningful upgrade over a standard manufacturer warranty because roofing issues are often related to installation details rather than material failures alone.

    GAF Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty

The Highest Level of Roofing Warranty Protection Available Through GAF

The GAF Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty represents the most comprehensive roofing warranty available through the GAF warranty program and is available only through GAF Master Elite contractors.

For homeowners planning to remain in their homes long-term, the Golden Pledge warranty offers one of the strongest combinations of material and workmanship protection available in the residential roofing industry.

Key Benefits of the Golden Pledge Warranty

    • 50-Year Material Coverage

Qualifying roofing systems receive long-term manufacturer-backed protection against material defects.

    • 25-Year Workmanship Coverage

Unlike many roofing warranties that focus primarily on materials, the Golden Pledge warranty includes extensive workmanship coverage for qualifying installations.

    • Tear-Off and Disposal Coverage

If a covered warranty issue requires roofing materials to be removed and replaced, qualifying costs associated with tear-off and disposal may also be covered.

    • Transferability

The warranty can be transferred to future homeowners according to GAF’s transfer guidelines, creating additional value for homeowners who may sell during the warranty period.

    • Enhanced Wind Protection

Qualifying roofing systems may be eligible for enhanced wind warranty protection when installed according to manufacturer specifications.

Why the Golden Pledge Warranty Matters

A roof is one of the most important systems protecting a home from water intrusion, weather exposure, and structural deterioration.

The Golden Pledge warranty provides a level of protection that extends beyond simple product replacement. Because workmanship coverage is included, homeowners gain additional assurance that qualifying installation-related issues may also be addressed under the warranty program.

This distinction is especially valuable for Main Line homes, where roofing systems often protect older structures, finished attics, custom millwork, plaster interiors, and other architectural features that can be costly to repair if water infiltration occurs.

    Manufacturer-Backed Protection Beyond the Contractor

One of the most significant advantages of enhanced manufacturer warranties is that they are supported by the manufacturer itself and not solely by the contractor performing the installation.

When homeowners qualify for programs such as the GAF Golden Pledge warranty, they benefit from protection backed by one of the largest roofing manufacturers in North America. This additional layer of protection provides confidence that warranty obligations remain supported by the manufacturer according to the warranty terms.

For homeowners evaluating roofing contractors, the ability to offer enhanced manufacturer-backed warranties is often a reflection of a contractor’s certifications, training, installation standards, and long-term commitment to quality workmanship.

Additional Manufacturer Warranties Available Through Hynes Construction

While GAF roofing warranties are among the most recognized warranty programs available to homeowners, they are not the only manufacturer-backed protections available through Hynes Construction projects.

Depending on the products selected, homeowners may qualify for additional manufacturer warranties covering roofing, siding, windows, decking, and other exterior building products. These warranties provide an additional layer of protection beyond the Hynes Construction workmanship warranty and help ensure that both product performance and installation quality are supported long after project completion.

Because warranty terms vary by manufacturer, product line, installation method, and registration requirements, our team reviews applicable warranty options during the estimate process and provides written warranty documentation at project completion.

    CertainTeed Roofing Warranties

CertainTeed is one of North America’s leading roofing manufacturers and offers multiple warranty programs on qualifying roofing installations.

For homeowners selecting CertainTeed roofing products, warranty protection may include material coverage, enhanced wind resistance protection, transferability benefits, and expanded coverage available through complete roofing system installations.

    CertainTeed SureStart Warranty

The CertainTeed SureStart Warranty provides enhanced coverage during the initial years following installation and is designed to protect homeowners against qualifying manufacturing defects in CertainTeed roofing products.

    Benefits may include:

    • Full replacement cost coverage during the applicable SureStart period.
    • Material defect protection on qualifying roofing products.
    • Transferability to a subsequent homeowner according to manufacturer guidelines.
    • Enhanced value for homeowners considering future resale.

For many homeowners, the SureStart period provides important protection during the years immediately following installation, when manufacturing defects are most likely to become apparent.

    CertainTeed SureStart PLUS Warranty

For qualifying roofing systems installed according to CertainTeed specifications, homeowners may be eligible for the enhanced SureStart PLUS Warranty program.

This expanded warranty option may provide the following:

    • Extended protection beyond standard warranty programs.
    • Additional workmanship-related coverage.
    • Coverage associated with complete roofing system installations.
    • Enhanced manufacturer support compared to standard material-only warranties.

Because coverage levels vary depending on the specific warranty tier selected, our team reviews available options during the roofing consultation process.

    CertainTeed 5-Star Warranty

The CertainTeed 5-Star Warranty represents the highest level of warranty protection available through CertainTeed’s warranty programs.

Depending on project eligibility and installation requirements, benefits may include the following:

    • Long-term material protection.
    • Enhanced workmanship coverage.
    • Increased wind warranty protection.
    • Transferability benefits.
    • Manufacturer-backed support on qualifying systems.

For homeowners comparing premium roofing systems, understanding available warranty protection is an important part of evaluating overall project value and long-term ownership costs.

    Why Manufacturer Warranties Matter

A roofing system, siding system, window installation, or exterior renovation project represents a substantial investment in the long-term protection of a home.

Manufacturer warranties help ensure that homeowners receive protection not only from the contractor performing the work but also from the companies that design, test, and manufacture the products being installed.

This additional layer of protection can provide peace of mind, particularly for homeowners planning to remain in their property for many years or those who want transferable documentation that may add value during a future home sale.

Strong manufacturer warranties also reflect confidence in the products themselves. Companies that are willing to stand behind their products for decades demonstrate a commitment to quality, testing, and long-term performance.

Why Certified Installation Is Critical to Warranty Protection

One of the most important facts homeowners should understand is that many enhanced manufacturer warranties are only available when products are installed by certified contractors.

Manufacturers establish certification programs to ensure that contractors understand proper installation techniques, follow manufacturer specifications, maintain appropriate insurance coverage, and demonstrate a consistent history of quality workmanship.

Without a certified installation, homeowners may lose access to enhanced warranty programs and may be limited to basic warranty protection.

This is one of the reasons certifications matter when selecting a contractor. Enhanced warranties from manufacturers such as GAF, CertainTeed, James Hardie, and other industry-leading brands often depend on proper installation by qualified professionals.

Hynes Construction maintains professional certifications and manufacturer relationships that allow eligible homeowners to access enhanced warranty programs across a variety of roofing and exterior renovation products.

For more information about these qualifications, visit our Certifications, Affiliations, and Credentials page.

Warranties on Other Hynes Construction Services

While roofing warranties are often the most discussed warranty programs in the home improvement industry, homeowners should understand that warranty protection extends across many of the products and services installed by Hynes Construction.

Whether you are replacing siding, installing new windows, building a deck, repainting your home, or completing a larger exterior renovation, your project may include multiple layers of protection. These protections typically include a Hynes Construction workmanship warranty covering installation-related defects and manufacturer warranties covering the products themselves.

Because warranty terms vary by manufacturer and product line, all applicable warranty information is reviewed during the estimate process and provided in writing at project completion.

    Siding Warranty Coverage

Siding is one of the most important protective systems on a home. Properly installed siding helps defend against moisture intrusion, wind-driven rain, UV exposure, temperature fluctuations, and long-term structural deterioration.

For this reason, siding projects often include both workmanship protection and manufacturer-backed product warranties.

James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding Warranties

James Hardie is one of the most recognized siding manufacturers in North America and is known for producing durable fiber cement siding products designed to withstand demanding weather conditions.

Depending on the product selected, qualifying James Hardie siding installations may include the following:

    • Manufacturer-backed limited product warranties.
    • Coverage against manufacturing defects.
    • Protection for factory-applied finishes on qualifying products.
    • Long-term performance coverage for approved installations.

Enhanced warranty benefits may be available when products are installed according to manufacturer specifications using approved installation methods.

For additional information about fiber cement siding systems, visit our Fiber Cement Siding page.

    LP SmartSide Warranty Protection

LP SmartSide engineered wood siding products are designed to combine the appearance of traditional wood with advanced engineered wood technology.

Qualifying LP SmartSide products may include the following:

    • Long-term manufacturer warranty protection.
    • Coverage against manufacturing defects.
    • Protection associated with LP’s engineered wood construction technology.
    • Transferability provisions according to manufacturer guidelines.

Warranty terms vary based on product selection and installation requirements.

    CertainTeed Vinyl Siding Warranties

CertainTeed vinyl siding products are among the most widely installed residential siding systems in North America. Depending on the product line selected, qualifying installations may include the following:

    • Manufacturer-backed limited lifetime warranty protection.
    • Coverage for manufacturing defects.
    • Transferability benefits.
    • Long-term product performance protection.

Combined with proper installation and routine maintenance, manufacturer warranty protection can help homeowners maximize the long-term value of their siding investment.

For additional information, visit our vinyl siding installation page.

    Window Warranty Coverage

Windows play a critical role in energy efficiency, weather protection, comfort, and curb appeal. Like other home improvement products, windows are typically protected by both manufacturer warranties and installation workmanship warranties. Because window systems consist of multiple components, including frames, glass units, hardware, seals, and weatherproofing materials, warranty coverage varies by manufacturer and product series.

    Andersen Window Warranties

Andersen windows are known for their durability, energy performance, and broad product selection. Qualifying Andersen products may include manufacturer-backed warranty protection covering the following:

    • Window frames.
    • Insulated glass units.
    • Hardware components.
    • Manufacturing-related defects.

Coverage varies by product series and installation type.

    Pella Window Warranties

Pella offers a wide range of replacement and new-construction window products.

Qualifying Pella products may include the following:

    • Limited lifetime coverage on certain components.
    • Manufacturer protection against product defects.
    • Coverage on insulated glass systems.
    • Transferability options where applicable.

Marvin and ProVia Window Warranty Programs

Premium fiberglass and specialty window manufacturers such as Marvin and ProVia offer warranty programs designed to support long-term product performance.

Depending on the product selected, homeowners may receive protection covering:

    • Structural window components.
    • Glass performance.
    • Factory-applied finishes.
    • Manufacturing-related defects.

Specific coverage varies by product line and manufacturer program requirements.

For more information about replacement windows and installation options, visit our Window Installation Services page.

    Painting Warranty Coverage

Professional painting projects involve significantly more than applying paint to a surface. Long-term paint performance depends on proper preparation, substrate condition, environmental factors, product selection, and installation quality. Because of this, painting warranty protection is often divided into two categories.

    Hynes Construction Workmanship Coverage

Workmanship coverage may apply to installation-related issues such as the following:

    • Improper surface preparation.
    • Application-related failures.
    • Adhesion issues caused by workmanship deficiencies.
    • Defects resulting from installation errors.

    Manufacturer Paint Product Warranties

Leading paint manufacturers such as Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore provide warranty protection covering qualifying paint products. Manufacturer coverage may address:

    • Product formulation defects.
    • Manufacturing-related failures.
    • Certain performance-related product issues covered under manufacturer guidelines.

Coverage does not typically extend to issues caused by improper application, substrate failure, moisture intrusion, or inadequate preparation.

For more information, visit our exterior painting and interior painting service pages.

    Deck Warranty Coverage

A deck represents a major investment in outdoor living space and should provide reliable performance for years to come. Deck projects often involve multiple materials, each carrying separate warranty protections. These may include:

    • Structural framing components.
    • Composite decking products.
    • Railings and accessory systems.
    • Fasteners and connection hardware.

    Trex Decking Warranties

Trex is one of the most recognized composite decking manufacturers in North America.

Qualifying Trex products may include the following:

    • Long-term manufacturer warranty protection.
    • Coverage against material defects.
    • Fade and stain protection on qualifying product lines.
    • Transferability benefits under manufacturer guidelines.

    TimberTech and AZEK Warranty Protection

TimberTech and AZEK premium decking products are designed for long-term durability and low maintenance. Depending on the product selected, manufacturer warranties may include the following:

    • Coverage against manufacturing defects.
    • Protection for premium PVC decking products.
    • Long-term structural performance coverage.
    • Transferability provisions where applicable.

For more information about outdoor living projects, visit our Deck Construction Services page.

Understanding the Value of Combined Warranty Protection

The strongest warranty protection typically comes from combining the following:

    Quality Products

Installed products from established manufacturers with proven warranty programs.

    Professional Installation

Installation performed according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.

    Written Documentation

Clear warranty terms provided in writing at project completion.

    Long-Term Local Support

A contractor with a long-standing presence in the community and a history of standing behind completed projects.

When these elements work together, homeowners benefit from comprehensive protection that extends well beyond project completion.

For more than 50 years, Hynes Construction has helped Main Line homeowners invest confidently in their homes by combining quality workmanship, trusted products, and clearly documented warranty protection.

What Can Void a Manufacturer’s Warranty?

A manufacturer’s warranty provides valuable long-term protection, but every warranty comes with conditions and requirements that must be followed to maintain coverage. Many homeowners are surprised to learn that a warranty can be reduced, limited, or completely voided if installation requirements, maintenance responsibilities, or product guidelines are not followed. Understanding these requirements helps homeowners protect their investment and preserve the full value of their warranty coverage for years to come. While warranty terms vary by manufacturer and product line, the situations below are among the most common causes of warranty limitations or denials.

    Installation by a Non-Certified Contractor

Many premium manufacturer warranty programs require installation by a certified contractor.

Enhanced warranty programs such as GAF Golden Pledge®, GAF System Plus®, CertainTeed SureStart Plus®, and certain James Hardie warranty programs are only available when products are installed according to manufacturer requirements by qualified contractors. When products are installed by an uncertified contractor, homeowners may lose access to enhanced warranty coverage and be limited to a basic manufacturer warranty. This is one of the primary reasons contractor certifications matter when evaluating roofing, siding, window, and exterior renovation companies. Before signing a contract, homeowners should verify that the contractor is authorized to offer the warranty program being discussed.

For more information about our qualifications, visit our Certifications, Affiliations, and Credentials page.

Failure to Use Required System Components

Many manufacturer warranties are designed around complete systems rather than individual products. For example, roofing manufacturers often require compatible starter strips, ridge components, underlayments, ventilation products, and other accessories to be installed together as part of an approved roofing system. When incompatible or non-approved components are substituted, warranty coverage may be reduced or voided. This requirement exists because roofing systems are engineered to perform as an integrated assembly rather than as individual products installed independently.

Proper system installation helps ensure long-term weather resistance, ventilation performance, and manufacturer compliance.

    Unauthorized Modifications After Installation

A warranty may be affected when modifications are made to a completed system without following user guidelines.

    Examples may include:

    • Installing satellite dishes directly through roofing materials.
    • Adding solar equipment without proper flashing details.
    • Creating new roof penetrations after installation.
    • Altering siding systems without approved installation methods.
    • Modifying windows, doors, or exterior assemblies in ways that affect performance.

Any modification that changes how the original system performs may impact warranty coverage. Homeowners should consult qualified professionals before making changes to warrantied systems.

    Improper Repairs Performed by Others

When a third party performs repairs on a roofing, siding, window, or exterior system, warranty coverage may be affected. Manufacturers and contractors typically require repairs to follow approved installation procedures and product specifications. Improper repairs can create new problems that make it difficult to determine the source of future failures. If a repair is needed during the warranty period, homeowners should contact the original contractor whenever possible before authorizing outside work. This helps protect existing warranty coverage and ensures repairs are documented correctly.

    Lack of Routine Maintenance

Manufacturer warranties do not replace routine maintenance responsibilities. Most exterior building systems require periodic inspection and maintenance to perform properly throughout their service life.

    Examples include:

    • Cleaning gutters and downspouts.
    • Maintaining proper roof drainage.
    • Trimming overhanging tree branches.
    • Inspecting flashing and sealants periodically.
    • Maintaining adequate attic ventilation.
    • Addressing minor issues before they become major problems.

Failure to perform reasonable maintenance can contribute to deterioration that falls outside warranty coverage. Routine maintenance protects both the home and the warranty itself.

Storm Damage and Other External Events

One of the most common misconceptions among homeowners is that a manufacturer’s warranty functions like an insurance policy. In reality, manufacturer warranties generally cover product defects and, in some cases, workmanship-related issues. They do not typically cover damage caused by external events.

    Examples include:

    • Windstorms.
    • Hail.
    • Falling trees or branches.
    • Lightning strikes.
    • Tornadoes.
    • Severe weather events.
    • Impact damage caused by debris.

These situations are typically addressed through homeowner insurance rather than manufacturer warranty programs. For storm-related losses, homeowners should review their insurance coverage and document damage as soon as possible.

You can also visit our Insurance Claims Assistance page to learn more about navigating storm-related restoration projects.

    Improper Ventilation and Moisture Conditions

Many roofing and siding warranty programs require the home to maintain appropriate ventilation and moisture management conditions. Poor attic ventilation, excessive moisture accumulation, blocked soffit vents, or inadequate airflow can contribute to the following:

    • Premature material deterioration.
    • Mold growth.
    • Excessive heat buildup.
    • Reduced product lifespan.

When these conditions exist, manufacturers may determine that the failure resulted from environmental conditions rather than a product defect. Proper ventilation is an important part of maintaining warranty eligibility and long-term system performance.

Use of Non-Approved Coatings, Sealants, or Products

Applying products that have not been approved by the manufacturer can affect warranty coverage.

    Examples include:

    • Roof coatings are applied over shingles.
    • Unapproved sealants.
    • Paint systems incompatible with manufacturer specifications.
    • Surface treatments not authorized by the manufacturer.

While these products are often marketed as performance upgrades, they can interfere with how the original materials were designed to function. Homeowners should always consult the manufacturer or contractor before applying aftermarket products to warrantied building materials.

How Hynes Construction Helps Protect Your Warranty

Protecting warranty coverage begins long before project completion.

During the planning and installation process, Hynes Construction follows manufacturer specifications, uses approved installation methods, and documents qualifying installations according to manufacturer requirements. At project completion, homeowners receive written warranty documentation, product information, and guidance regarding any registration requirements that may apply. If questions arise in the future, our team is available to help homeowners understand their warranty coverage, documentation requirements, and available support options.

For more than 50 years, we have helped Main Line homeowners protect their investments through quality workmanship, proper installation practices, and long-term customer support.

How to Register and Protect Your Warranty After Project Completion

Receiving a warranty is only the first step. For certain manufacturer warranties, registration may be required to activate enhanced coverage and ensure that warranty benefits remain available throughout the warranty period. Many homeowners assume warranty registration happens automatically. In reality, some manufacturers require specific registration procedures, documentation, or deadlines that must be completed after installation. At Hynes Construction, we help homeowners understand these requirements and provide the documentation needed to complete registration successfully. The goal is simple: make sure your warranty protection is fully documented, properly registered, and available if you ever need it.

Step 1: Review Your Project Close-Out Documentation

At the completion of your project, you will receive documentation related to the products installed and the warranties associated with those products. Depending on the scope of work, your project documentation may include:

    • Hynes Construction workmanship warranty documentation.
    • Manufacturer warranty certificates.
    • Product information sheets.
    • Installation records.
    • Material specifications.
    • Registration instructions for qualifying manufacturer warranties.
    • Contact information for warranty support.

We recommend reviewing these documents carefully and keeping both physical and digital copies for future reference. Proper documentation can significantly simplify the warranty claim process if a warranty issue ever arises.

Step 2: Confirm Whether Registration Is Required

Not every manufacturer’s warranty requires homeowner registration. Some warranties are automatically activated upon installation, while others require registration within a specific timeframe after project completion. Missing a registration deadline may reduce available warranty benefits or limit coverage under certain manufacturer programs. For this reason, homeowners should verify registration requirements immediately after project completion rather than waiting until a future warranty claim occurs. Our team reviews applicable registration requirements with homeowners and identifies any actions that may be necessary.

Step 3: Complete Any Required Manufacturer Registration

Several manufacturers require homeowners to register products directly through the manufacturer’s warranty system.

Registration typically requires information such as:

    • Property address.
    • Installation date.
    • Product model information.
    • Contractor information.
    • Product serial numbers (where applicable).

The exact requirements vary by manufacturer and product category. Completing registration promptly helps ensure that warranty records are accurate and available if a future claim becomes necessary.

    Common Manufacturer Registration Requirements

    GAF Roofing Warranties

For qualifying roofing projects, GAF warranty registration is typically handled by Hynes Construction through the appropriate contractor registration process. Homeowners receive warranty documentation confirming registration and coverage details. If warranty verification or transfer assistance is needed in the future, our team can help homeowners locate the appropriate documentation.

    James Hardie Siding Warranties

Certain James Hardie warranty programs may require homeowner registration according to manufacturer guidelines. Product information required for registration is included within the project close-out documentation provided by Hynes Construction.

    CertainTeed Warranty Registration

Qualifying CertainTeed warranty programs may require registration within the manufacturer’s specified timeframe. Documentation provided at project completion includes the information necessary to complete registration where applicable.

    LP SmartSide Warranty Registration

LP SmartSide warranty registration requirements vary depending on the product and warranty program involved. Project documentation includes installation records and product information needed to complete registration requirements.

Step 4: Store Warranty Documentation in a Safe Location

One of the most common problems homeowners encounter is losing warranty paperwork years after project completion. We recommend maintaining both digital and printed copies of:

    • Warranty certificates.
    • Registration confirmations.
    • Contracts.
    • Invoices.
    • Product documentation.
    • Project photographs.
    • Installation records.

Having organized records makes future warranty claims significantly easier and may also provide valuable documentation when selling your home.

Step 5: Understand Warranty Transfer Opportunities

Many premium manufacturer warranties include transfer provisions that allow coverage to move to a future homeowner. Transferable warranties can provide additional value during a home sale because they demonstrate that major systems have been professionally installed and remain protected under manufacturer warranty programs.

    Examples may include:

    • GAF Golden Pledge® warranties.
    • CertainTeed roofing warranties.
    • Select siding warranties.
    • Certain window warranty programs.
    • Various decking manufacturer warranties.

Transfer requirements vary by manufacturer and often include specific timelines and documentation requirements. If you plan to sell your home during the warranty period, reviewing transfer requirements before listing the property can help preserve these benefits.

Step 6: Keep Up with Routine Maintenance

Warranty registration alone does not guarantee coverage. Most manufacturers require homeowners to maintain installed products according to normal maintenance standards. Examples include:

    Roofing Systems

    • Keep gutters clean and functioning properly.
    • Address storm damage promptly.
    • Maintain attic ventilation.
    • Schedule periodic inspections.

    Siding Systems

    • Clean exterior surfaces when necessary.
    • Address moisture issues promptly.
    • Maintain sealants and trim components.

    Windows and Doors

    • Inspect weatherstripping periodically.
    • Maintain drainage channels.
    • Address operational issues before they worsen.

    Decking Systems

    • Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning recommendations.
    • Inspect fasteners and structural components.
    • Address minor maintenance concerns before they become major repairs.

Routine maintenance protects both your investment and your warranty coverage.

How Hynes Construction Supports Homeowners After Installation

Warranty support does not end when a project is completed.

If questions arise regarding registration requirements, warranty documentation, transfer procedures, or potential warranty claims, our team is available to help guide homeowners through the process.

For more than 50 years, Hynes Construction has built long-term relationships with Main Line homeowners by providing not only quality workmanship but also ongoing support long after construction is complete.

Whether you need assistance locating documentation, understanding warranty coverage, or determining whether an issue may qualify for warranty consideration, our team is available to help.

How to File a Warranty Claim

A warranty provides peace of mind only if homeowners understand how to use it when a problem arises. If you notice an issue with a roofing system, siding installation, windows, doors, decking, painting project, or another improvement completed by Hynes Construction, the first step is to contact our team so we can evaluate the situation and determine whether the issue falls within workmanship warranty coverage, manufacturer warranty coverage, homeowner insurance coverage, or another category. Many warranty concerns can be resolved quickly once the cause of the issue is properly identified. Our goal is to make the process straightforward, transparent, and as stress-free as possible for homeowners.

    Step 1: Document the Issue

Before contacting us, we recommend documenting the problem as thoroughly as possible.

    Helpful information includes:

    • Photographs of the affected area.
    • The approximate date the issue was first noticed.
    • A description of the problem.
    • Any recent weather events that may have occurred.
    • Any changes or repairs made since the original installation.

The more information available at the beginning of the process, the faster we can evaluate the situation and determine the appropriate next steps.

    Step 2: Contact Hynes Construction

If you believe a problem may be covered under warranty, contact Hynes Construction as soon as possible. When reaching out, please provide:

    • Your name and property address.
    • Approximate project completion date.
    • Type of project completed.
    • Description of the issue.
    • Any supporting photographs or documentation.

Our team will review the information and schedule an inspection if necessary. Early communication is important because small issues can sometimes become larger and more expensive problems if left unaddressed.

Step 3: Professional Assessment and Inspection

After reviewing the information provided, we scheduled an assessment of the reported issue.

    During the inspection, we evaluate:

    • The nature of the problem.
    • The affected building components.
    • Installation details.
    • Existing site conditions.
    • Potential contributing factors.
    • Whether the issue falls within workmanship coverage, manufacturer coverage, insurance coverage, or normal maintenance responsibilities.

This assessment helps determine the most appropriate resolution and ensures homeowners receive accurate guidance based on the actual cause of the issue.

    Step 4: Determine Coverage Eligibility

Not every issue is covered by the same type of protection. Our evaluation helps identify which of the following may apply:

    Hynes Construction Workmanship Warranty

If the issue is determined to be the result of an installation-related defect covered by our workmanship warranty, we will coordinate the necessary corrective action according to the terms of the applicable warranty.

    Examples may include:

    • Flashing installation issues.
    • Improper sealing.
    • Installation-related water intrusion.
    • Fastening deficiencies.
    • Other workmanship-related concerns.

    Manufacturer Warranty Coverage

If the issue appears to involve a product defect rather than an installation issue, the manufacturer’s warranty process may apply. Examples may include:

    • Material deterioration unrelated to weather.
    • Manufacturing defects.
    • Product failures covered by the manufacturer’s warranty program.

When applicable, Hynes Construction assists homeowners with the warranty claim process and helps gather the documentation required by the manufacturer.

    Homeowner Insurance Coverage

Certain situations are not warranty issues at all. Storm damage, hail impacts, falling tree limbs, and other external events are typically addressed through homeowner insurance rather than contractor or manufacturer warranties. If storm-related damage is identified, we can help document the condition and provide guidance regarding the insurance claims process.

For additional information, visit our Insurance Claims Assistance page.

Step 5: Resolution and Corrective Action

Once the source of the issue has been identified and coverage eligibility has been confirmed, we develop an appropriate plan for resolution. Depending on the circumstances, this may include

    • Repairing the affected area.
    • Replacing defective materials.
    • Coordinating with the manufacturer.
    • Providing documentation required for warranty approval.
    • Assisting with insurance-related documentation.

Our objective is to resolve legitimate warranty concerns efficiently while keeping homeowners informed throughout the process.

    Manufacturer Warranty Claim Support

Many homeowners find manufacturer warranty programs confusing because each manufacturer maintains different requirements, documentation standards, and claim procedures. As part of our commitment to customer service, Hynes Construction assists homeowners with qualifying manufacturer warranty claims involving products from manufacturers such as the following:

    • GAF
    • CertainTeed
    • James Hardie
    • LP Building Solutions
    • Andersen
    • Pella
    • Marvin
    • ProVia
    • Trex
    • TimberTech/AZEK

While warranty approval ultimately remains the responsibility of the manufacturer, we help homeowners navigate the process and provide supporting project documentation when available.

    When Should You Contact Us?

If you are unsure whether a problem is covered under warranty, contact us anyway. Many homeowners delay reporting issues because they assume a problem is minor or believe they are responsible for the repair. A professional evaluation often provides clarity and helps prevent additional damage from developing. The sooner a potential issue is reviewed, the easier it is to determine the cause and identify the appropriate solution.

    Our Commitment to Long-Term Support

A warranty should be more than a document stored in a filing cabinet. It should reflect a contractor’s commitment to standing behind their work and supporting homeowners long after construction is complete. For more than 50 years, Hynes Construction has built its reputation by maintaining long-term relationships with Main Line homeowners and providing ongoing support when questions or concerns arise. Whether your issue involves workmanship, manufacturer coverage, warranty documentation, or uncertainty about the next step, our team is available to help guide you through the process.

Warranty Documentation Provided at Project Completion

A warranty is only as valuable as the documentation that supports it. Many homeowners discover the importance of warranty paperwork years after a project is completed, often when they need to file a warranty claim, sell their home, verify product specifications, or address a service issue. Without proper records, it can be difficult to determine what products were installed, what coverage applies, when the warranty period began, or how to access manufacturer support.

At Hynes Construction, we believe homeowners should leave every completed project with clear, organized documentation that explains exactly what was installed, what warranty protection applies, and how to access support if it is ever needed.

Every project closeout package is designed to provide homeowners with a complete record of their investment and the protections that accompany it.

    What Documentation Will You Receive?

Upon completion of your project, you will receive documentation specific to the products and services installed at your home. Depending on the scope of work, your project documentation may include:

    • Hynes Construction workmanship warranty documentation.
    • Manufacturer warranty certificates.
    • Product registration information.
    • Material specifications.
    • Installation records.
    • Product model and manufacturer details.
    • Warranty claim instructions.
    • Project invoices and contracts.
    • Project completion records.

This documentation serves as your permanent record of the project and should be retained throughout the life of the installed system.

    Hynes Construction Workmanship Warranty Documentation

Every project completed by Hynes Construction includes written documentation outlining the workmanship warranty applicable to that specific project. This documentation clearly identifies:

    • Scope of work completed.
    • Applicable workmanship coverage.
    • Warranty duration.
    • Terms and conditions.
    • Warranty claim procedures.
    • Contact information for warranty support.

Unlike verbal promises, written warranty documentation provides homeowners with clear expectations and documented protection should a workmanship-related issue arise during the warranty period.

    Manufacturer Warranty Documentation

Many home improvement products include manufacturer-backed warranties that protect against defects in materials and product performance.

Where applicable, homeowners receive documentation related to manufacturer warranty coverage for products such as the following:

    Roofing Systems

    • GAF roofing products.
    • CertainTeed roofing products.
    • Roofing accessories and system components.

    Siding Systems

    • James Hardie fiber cement siding.
    • LP SmartSide engineered wood siding.
    • CertainTeed vinyl siding.

    Windows and Doors

    • Andersen Windows.
    • Pella Windows.
    • Marvin Windows.
    • ProVia Doors.

    Decking Systems

    • Trex Composite Decking.
    • TimberTech/AZEK Decking Products.

Manufacturer warranty documentation helps homeowners verify coverage eligibility and understand the specific protections associated with the products installed on their property.

    Product Installation Records

One of the most overlooked yet valuable pieces of project documentation is the installation record. Installation records provide a detailed history of the project, including:

    • Installation date.
    • Property address.
    • Product manufacturer.
    • Product model information.
    • Product color and style selections.
    • System components used during installation.

These records can be extremely valuable years later when repairs, additions, warranty claims, or future renovations are being considered.

For example, matching replacement materials often becomes significantly easier when accurate installation records are available.

    Warranty Registration Information

Certain manufacturer warranties require registration or verification following installation. Where registration is required, Hynes Construction provides the information homeowners need to complete the process successfully.

    Documentation may include:

    • Product registration requirements.
    • Registration deadlines.
    • Product identification information.
    • Manufacturer contact information.
    • Confirmation of registrations completed on behalf of the homeowner.

We strongly recommend reviewing registration requirements promptly after project completion to ensure all applicable warranty benefits remain available.

Why Proper Documentation Matters When Selling Your Home

Warranty documentation can also provide value during a future real estate transaction. Many prospective buyers view documented warranties as evidence that major home improvements were completed professionally using reputable products and qualified contractors.

Having organized project records can help demonstrate:

    • Professional installation.
    • Product quality.
    • Remaining warranty coverage.
    • Transferable manufacturer warranties.
    • Maintenance history.

For transferable warranties such as qualifying GAF, CertainTeed, James Hardie, and other manufacturer programs, documentation may become an important asset during the sale process.

Store Your Documentation in a Safe Location

We recommend keeping both digital and printed copies of all project-related documentation.

    Important records include:

    • Warranty certificates.
    • Registration confirmations.
    • Contracts.
    • Invoices.
    • Product information sheets.
    • Installation records.
    • Project photographs.
    • Manufacturer correspondence.

Having quick access to these documents can significantly simplify future warranty claims, maintenance decisions, insurance discussions, and real estate transactions.

Need a Replacement Copy of Your Documentation?

If you have misplaced project records or need assistance locating warranty information from a Hynes Construction project, our team may be able to help.

Depending on project age and record availability, we can often assist homeowners with locating documentation related to:

    • Project completion dates.
    • Installed products.
    • Warranty information.
    • Manufacturer details.
    • Previous service records.

If you have questions about documentation from a past project, contact our office, and we will do our best to assist.

Built on Accountability, Backed by Documentation

At Hynes Construction, we believe homeowners deserve more than quality workmanship. They deserve clear records, written warranties, and complete transparency regarding the products installed in their homes. For more than 50 years, we have helped Main Line homeowners make informed decisions by providing detailed project documentation that supports their investment long after construction is complete. Every completed project includes the documentation homeowners need to understand their coverage, protect their investment, and access support whenever it is needed.

Does Storm Damage Void My Roof Warranty?

Storm damage is one of the most misunderstood areas in home improvement warranties, especially for roofing systems in the Main Line region, where homes are regularly exposed to windstorms, hail events, heavy rain, and seasonal weather changes.

The key point homeowners must understand is this:

Storm damage does not “void” your warranty; it simply shifts responsibility depending on the cause of the damage.

Different types of coverage apply depending on what actually caused the issue.

    Manufacturer Warranty vs Storm Damage

Manufacturer warranties are designed to protect against product defects, not external forces.

This means manufacturer warranties typically do NOT cover the following:

    • Hail impact damage
    • Wind uplift damage beyond rated thresholds
    • Tree or branch impact
    • Water intrusion caused by storm events
    • Ice dam damage caused by weather conditions

These are considered external environmental events, not manufacturing failures. However, if shingles, siding, or other materials fail without a storm event, the manufacturer’s warranty may apply.

    Workmanship Warranty vs Storm Damage

Your Hynes Construction workmanship warranty protects you against issues caused by installation errors.

This includes problems such as the following:

    • Improper flashing installation
    • Incorrect sealing or fastening
    • Installation-related leaks
    • Poor integration of roofing components

However, workmanship warranties do NOT cover:

    • Storm-related damage
    • Hail impact
    • Wind events above rated limits
    • Falling debris or tree damage

Even a perfectly installed system can be damaged by severe weather events.

When Insurance Applies Instead of Warranty

In most storm-related situations, the correct coverage is homeowner insurance, not warranty protection.

    Insurance typically covers:

    • Hail damage to roofing or siding
    • Wind damage that lifts or removes shingles
    • Damage from fallen trees or branches
    • Water damage caused by storm-related roof failure

This is why proper documentation after a storm is critical. At Hynes Construction, we often assist homeowners in identifying whether damage appears to be:

    • Storm-related (insurance claim)
    • Installation-related (workmanship warranty)
    • Product-related (manufacturer warranty)

    Common Storm Scenarios Explained

    1. Wind Damage to Shingles

If shingles are lifted or removed due to high winds, this is generally treated as a weather event, not a product or installation defect.

➡ Typically handled through homeowner insurance.

    2. Hail Damage

Hail impact creates visible surface damage, such as bruising, cracking, or granule loss.

➡ This is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
➡ Typically covered under insurance policies.

    3. Roof Leak After Storm

If a leak appears after a storm, the cause must be inspected.

    It may be:

    • Storm-driven damage (insurance)
    • Pre-existing installation weakness (workmanship warranty)
    • Material failure (manufacturer warranty)

A professional inspection is required to determine responsibility.

    4. Ice Dams and Winter Damage

Ice dams are usually caused by attic insulation or ventilation issues combined with freezing conditions.

    ➡ Usually not a manufacturer’s defect
    ➡ May not be warranty-covered
➡ May require maintenance or system correction

Why Proper Inspection Matters After Storm Damage

After any major weather event, assumptions can lead to incorrect claims or delayed repairs.

    A proper inspection helps determine:

    • Whether damage is new or pre-existing
    • Whether it is structural, installation, or weather-related
    • Whether insurance documentation is needed
    • Whether warranty coverage applies

This avoids claim delays and ensures the correct process is followed from the beginning.

How Hynes Construction Helps After Storm Events

Hynes Construction assists homeowners by providing the following:

    • Professional roof and exterior inspections
    • Damage documentation with photos and reports
    • Guidance on insurance claim filing
    • Assessment of workmanship-related concerns
    • Manufacturer warranty evaluation when applicable

Our goal is to help homeowners clearly understand what caused the issue so they can take the correct next step.

    Key Takeaway for Homeowners

Storm damage does not cancel your warranty. It simply determines which protection applies:

    • Manufacturer warranty → product defects only
    • Workmanship warranty → installation errors only
    • Insurance → storm and external damage

Understanding this distinction prevents confusion and ensures faster resolution when damage occurs.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the GAF Golden Pledge warranty, and who can offer it?

The GAF Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty is one of the most comprehensive residential roofing warranties available. It provides up to 50 years of material coverage and up to 25 years of workmanship coverage on qualifying roofing systems. Unlike standard roofing warranties that only cover manufacturing defects, the Golden Pledge warranty includes workmanship protection backed by GAF in addition to material coverage. Only GAF Master Elite® contractors are authorized to offer this warranty. Fewer than 2% of roofing contractors in North America qualify for GAF Master Elite status. Hynes Construction is a GAF Master Elite-certified contractor and can offer Golden Pledge warranty options on qualifying roofing installations.

Does the GAF Golden Pledge warranty transfer if I sell my Main Line home?

Yes. One of the most valuable features of the GAF Golden Pledge warranty is its transferability. If you sell your home during the warranty period, the warranty may be transferred to a subsequent homeowner according to GAF’s transfer requirements. Transferable warranties can add value during a real estate transaction because they provide documented protection for  future homeowners and demonstrate that the roofing system was installed by a certified contractor using qualifying products. Homeowners should retain all warranty documentation and complete any required transfer procedures at the time of sale.

What does a workmanship warranty actually cover?

A workmanship warranty covers defects related to how a product or system was installed.

Examples of workmanship-related issues may include:

    • Improper flashing installation.
    • Incorrect fastening methods.
    • Improper sealing.
    • Installation-related water intrusion.
    • Installation errors that affect system performance.

A workmanship warranty does not cover manufacturing defects in the products themselves. Product defects are generally covered under the applicable manufacturer’s warranty. Both forms of protection are important because materials and installation represent two separate sources of potential failure.

How long is the Hynes Construction workmanship warranty?

Workmanship warranty durations vary depending on the type of project being performed. Specific warranty terms are provided in writing before work begins and are included in the project contract and closeout documentation. For qualifying roofing installations, enhanced workmanship coverage may also be available through manufacturer-backed warranty programs such as the GAF Golden Pledge warranty. Your estimator will explain the warranty options available for your specific project during the estimate process.

What is the difference between a manufacturer's warranty and a workmanship warranty?

A manufacturer’s warranty covers defects in the products themselves.

    Examples include:

    • Premature product deterioration.
    • Manufacturing defects.
    • Material performance failures covered under the manufacturer’s warranty terms.

A workmanship warranty covers defects resulting from installation errors.

    Examples include:

    • Improper flashing installation.
    • Incorrect fastening.
    • Installation-related leaks.
    • Improper sealing or system integration.

The strongest warranty protection combines both manufacturer coverage and workmanship coverage. This is why certified installation programs often provide greater long-term value for homeowners.

Can I get a warranty if Hynes Construction did not perform the original installation?

Hynes Construction cannot provide warranty coverage for work performed by another contractor. However, we can inspect existing roofing, siding, windows, decking, and exterior systems to evaluate their condition and identify the source of any problems.

If corrective work is completed by Hynes Construction, our workmanship warranty may apply to the scope of work we perform. If you are experiencing issues with an existing installation, contact us for a professional assessment.

What is the CertainTeed SureStart warranty?

CertainTeed SureStart® is a manufacturer warranty program available on qualifying CertainTeed roofing products.

During the SureStart coverage period, qualifying material defects may be covered at full replacement cost, including approved labor and material expenses.

Coverage periods vary depending on the roofing product selected.

Enhanced CertainTeed warranty options may also be available on qualifying Integrity Roof System installations and certified contractor installations.

    What voids a roofing warranty?

Warranty requirements vary by manufacturer, but common reasons warranties may be reduced or voided include:

    • Installation by non-certified contractors.
    • Failure to use required system components.
    • Unauthorized roof penetrations.
    • Improper repairs by third parties.
    • Lack of required maintenance.
    • Application of non-approved coatings or products.
    • Failure to complete required warranty registration procedures.

Homeowners should review warranty documentation carefully and follow manufacturer maintenance recommendations throughout the life of the system.

How long do I have to register my warranty after installation?

    Registration requirements vary by manufacturer.

Many manufacturer warranties require registration within a specific timeframe following installation, often within 30 days.

For qualifying GAF installations, registration is typically completed by Hynes Construction. Other manufacturers may require registration by the homeowner.

At project completion, we provide the information and documentation necessary to complete any required registration procedures.

Does a warranty cover the cost of finding a leak?

    In many cases, yes.

If a leak is determined to be the result of a covered workmanship defect, diagnosis and corrective work are generally included within the applicable warranty coverage.

However, if the investigation determines that the leak resulted from storm damage, homeowner modifications, lack of maintenance, or another non-covered cause, repair costs may fall outside warranty protection.

The specific coverage available depends on the warranty program involved and the cause of the issue.
